Autoblogging – the basics, episode 1

I’ve been recently asked by several people on a forum I tent to read daily if autoblogging is worthy or not. I took the time to reply to existing autoblogging threads as well as responding to each private message I received but after 50 messages I felt I had enough of it. That’s the reason I’m starting an autoblogging series on my own blog and when asked I’ll just direct people straight to it.

Let’s start with the basics. What is autoblogging?

An autoblog is a blog that gets its content from other online sources, sometimes the content gets rewritten automatically, but always leaving the sources intact, which means each article will have a direct link back to its original poster. An autoblog that doesn’t give credit to the owner of the article is called a splog and we won’t be discussing that type of autoblogs as we hate them with a passion.

Now, there are quite a lot of autoblogging plugins anyone can use, some of them are even free.

Some autoblogging plugins would only do some basic stuff, like only posting RSS feeds. While this could be a good thing, it’d only work with a normal blog that gets unique articles posted every week with RSS feeds filling the gaps (sometimes in a news section). Since such blogs would have most of their articles unique, we can’t really call it an autoblog. On the other hand, an autoblog having its entire content from RSS feeds isn’t a good thing to do as it won’t get noticed by the search engines even if one manages to combine several different feeds into it.

Some other plugins work a bit different by taking content from several different types of sources. A great example is Multipress Lite, the plugin I’m using to power up all my autoblogs. Multipress Lite takes its content from:
-          Flickr;
-          YouTube;
-          Yahoo Answers;
-          RSS feeds;
-          3 largest article directories.

Another thing I like about it is the fact that Multipress Lite is free to use on as many autoblogs as you want. It leaves no visible traces to be found by the search engines, it works great with long tail keywords and it’s easy to use.

This concludes the first episode of the autoblogging series. If you want to go ahead and take the autoblogging plugin for a spin, google it, or better yet, use this link: Multipress Lite.

As always, feel free to ask any questions, share your thoughts and results with the community by using the comments section below this article.
